Our Story

In 2018, a warm and welcoming aroma began to fill the streets of Birmingham. It was the scent of home, of tradition, of the rich and diverse flavors of Africa. This was the birth of The Hideout Gourmet by Mama Rosa, a place where the vibrant culinary heritage of Southern Africa, Cameroon, and Nigeria came together under one roof.

Mama Rosa, the heart and soul behind the restaurant, moved to Birmingham from Zimbabwe. With her came not only the hopes and dreams of a new life but also the cherished recipes passed down through generations. As she settled into her new home, she quickly realised that something was missing—a place where she could find the comforting, familiar flavors of her homeland.

She searched the city, but there was nowhere she could go to enjoy a true taste of Southern African cuisine. Determined to fill this gap, she decided to take matters into her own hands. With a heart full of passion and a head full of recipes, Mama Rosa opened the doors to her very own restaurant in 2018.
